Preservation and Treated Timber

Here at Pine Sawmills NZ we are able to provide two types of Timber Treatment Processes. Below is a description of each Treatment.

LOSP utilises white spirit (Dry cleaner solvent) instead of water as the carrier of the preservative chemicals into the wood.  The beauty of LOSP is that you can treat the finished wooden components in the final machined shape and form, as the process does not swell or distort the timber fibres.  At Pine Sawmills we can treat particular products, such as our Lintels, to different hazard standards with LOSP formulations to protect against insect and fungal attack, thus prolonging its service life.

Key Benefits:

  • Workers are not exposed to treated wood dust and shavings.
  • No swelling of profiled timber.
  • Treatment is clear and does not discolour the timber. (Dyes can be added)
  • No wastage of preservative chemicals, (cost effective)
  • No measurable increase in weight.
  • The addition of a water repellent system dramatically improves stability and quality of the timber.
  • Non-leaching.
  • Will not affect metal fastenings, most glues, paints, stains and sealants.

ACQ is an alternative form of treatment used to protect outdoor timber structures from fungal decay and insect attack.  It can be seen in a variety of applications, including decking, gazebos, fencing, outdoor furniture, trellis and playground equipment.

For almost a decade, ACQ treated timber products have been used in some of the world's most beautiful locations. From the pristine environments of national parks in Australia, North America, Europe and Japan, to neighbourhood playgrounds and residential backyards.

The preservatives in ACQ products are frequently used in products that are common in our every day lives.  Copper, a naturally occurring mineral and the main ingredient in ACQ, is an effective and widely used fungicide.  Quaternary compounds (quat) are commonly used in household disinfectants and cleaners and provide enhanced performance against copper-tolerant fungi and insects.  The preservative penetrates deeply into and will remain in the wood for a long period of time.

Key Benefits

  • Long-term protection from rot, fungal decay and insect attack
  • Easily painted or stained
  • For use in Hazard Levels H1 through H5
  • Wood scraps can be disposed of in ordinary rubbish collection

Growing trees are an essential element in the carbon cycle; absorbing and storing carbon. By prolonging the durability and therefore the life of wood, we can increase our carbon storage capacity for the generations to come.
